Social Event at The Melbourne Athenaeum Library
Our members at the Melbourne Athenaeum Library are hosting our next City Precinct social event on Thursday the 30th of June and you're invited!
The Melbourne Athenaeum Library is an art and cultural hub in the heart of the City. Its building has played an important role in the early promotion and development of music, visual arts, literature, science and theatre. The library provides a warm, inviting space including a reading room for visitors and readers alike to immerse themselves into their broad collection of 30,000 volumes of biography, fantasy, history, journals. magazines and more.
Founded in 1839, as the Melbourne Mechanics' Institution. Its building's purpose was "the diffusion of literary, scientific and other useful knowledge to members and the general public" which was achieved by maintaining a library and museum whilst also offering classes and lectures.
The Athenaeum Library offers an annual subscription which allows members access to this extraordinary institution and become part of Melbourne's history.
